Ion Orchard

*Picture copyright by FF, taken in May 2009

I think I saw this seed as an art piece in front of ION Orchard, Singapore. But I took this picture during my walk in Bogor Botanical Gardens, Indonesia.

No, I have no idea what kind of seed this is or what kind of plant it will grow into. It just looks nice.

Fika,

The seed on your palm not only looks nice, it's also tastes nice. So nice till Portugal sent an expedition to Indonesia in early 1512 for it.
So nice till the prolonged struggles between The British and Dutch in the Second Anglo-Dutch War ended with an exchange agreement between the two where the Dutch gained control of the small island of Run in Indonesia, then the only source of the seed, while Britian controlled New Amsterdam in North America which is now known as New York.

And then the story of 350 years colonized of Indonesia begin. From this nice seed, Myristica fragans, nutmeg, or simply known as PALA.

Best regards,
indah

Wow.

I really appreciate the information. It humbles me that I know now that I am ignorant when it comes to plant species. Little do I know that one small seed could hold a tremendous amount of history.

Thanks again :)
